About Cultivate - Our Mission and Vision

Why Cultivate exists#

Cultivate began in Portland in 2026.

We wanted a place where home gardeners and small-scale growers could find clear, tested advice without the noise. Most online gardening content pushes products or repeats myths. We focus on soil, water, and plant health in the Pacific Northwest. If you keep a few raised beds or manage a community plot, these guides are for you. No prior training needed.

Who writes these guides#

Megan Foster leads the editing.

She has spent years working in sustainable agriculture, mostly in Oregon and Washington. The rest of us are gardeners and farming advocates who test ideas in real plots. We don't claim to be the final word. We explain what has worked for us and where it might fail. That honesty matters more than sounding polished.

How we prepare material#

We start with questions from readers.

Then we check extension service bulletins, peer-reviewed studies, and local trial data. We also talk with growers who deal with the same soil and weather. Every draft gets reviewed by at least two team members. We update older guides when new research or seasonal patterns change the advice. If a source is weak, we say so.

What we won't do#

We don't sell seeds, tools, or consulting.

We don't run sponsored posts or affiliate links. We won't tell you that one method works everywhere. We avoid fear-based claims about "chemicals" or "natural" fixes. We also don't give medical or legal advice. If we don't know something, we say that plainly.
